Women in India, especially in rural areas, have long existed within a complex social environment. Although many have left this traditional social system, they still encounter distinct socioeconomic challenges. Gender roles manifest in two settings, each with unique difficulties, yet both share similar structural patterns. In rural regions and villages, women often have limited access to formal healthcare and sanitation. Additionally, dropout rates among adolescent girls are high due to economic hardship, marriage pressures, and domestic duties. Women frequently serve as unpaid family laborers, seasonal wage earners, or low-paid workers within their communities, while urban women often work in the informal economy with unregulated, low wages. Patriarchal restrictions and safety concerns are significant in both settings. To broaden the impact of women's empowerment initiatives in Madurai, strategic adjustments are essential. Supporting women in Madurai and nearby areas requires structured measures to foster self-reliance. Vision Trust plays a vital role by addressing systemic gaps through focused programs in education, vocational training, Self-Help Groups, microfinance, market access, financial independence, mental health, legal awareness, domestic violence, health, hygiene, and resource management to promote lasting empowerment.
